The Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue Group held another Spay Neuter clinic November
The two Mexican Vets and helpers worked long hours each day, along with some help from La Peñita's local vet Eladho. We had a great cross section of helpers at this clinic, which included a Vet from New Zealand, as well as two gringa MD's.
Each day, we reached capacity by 10am as local families brought their dogs or cats in for treatment. This reduced the workload for helpers as very few animals needed to be held overnight, as compared to overnight care for 1-2 days for street dogs.
The improved condition of this clinic's animals was also very noticeable, with a reduction in fleas, ticks, and other diseases. A few more local Mexicans also helped out in the clinics, which proved the locals are taking greater interest in the clinics and their pets.
Outside the clinics, many thanks to other volunteers, such as LPTP's Fred and Faye Hodson for providing lunch. Many other LPTP residents, too numerous to list, also helped out with everything from donating supplies brought from home to fostering animals. The La Peñita community appreciates your support.

CHRISTMAS DINNER IN THE PARK
REFLECTIONS ON DUMPING RV WASTEWATER TANKS (and remaining on speaking terms with your neighbours)
Don't dump a sour smelling black water tank while your neighbors are having an outdoor luncheon with friends. This may seem obvious but it happens in the park all the time. Try to dump your tanks when no one is around, early in the morning or late evening is a good time. This courtesy will increase your odds of remaining on good terms with all of your neighbors.
After dumping your black water tank immediately follow with the contents of the grey water tank. Grey water is soapy and will flush the sewage from your RV drain hose and through the park sewage lines to the septic tank at the end of your row. When no sewage remains in the park sewage lines there is no sewage smell to escape and haunt your afternoon.
Make sure that your RV drain hose is tightly connected to the park sewage line. The connection should be airtight. Use the same connection protocol as you would at home. Soft rubber adapters or reducer fittings can make the connection as airtight as possible. If you do not have the proper fitting try using duct tape, electrical tape or household saran wrap, they are all effective and cheap. Despite its popularity and widespread use in Mexico, a plastic bag filled with sand is not effective at blocking escaping odors: however it may help keep the fittings from becoming accidentally knocked out of place.
Keep the RV waste water valves closed when you are not actually dumping waste. Sewer gas can move through the open valve and up through the RV vent stack. Keeping the valves closed will also keep sewer cockroaches out of your RV tanks. Your RV drain hose can be draped to create a water trap that will effectively stop the passage of sewer gas and critters.
USE OF TANK DEODORIZERS
Almost everyone uses some sort of holding tank chemical or special enzyme or even bacterial cultures (as used in household septic tanks). All are effective at reducing tank odors. Use them according to instructions. Even the most effective holding tank treatment does not last forever. Each additional day that passes and every additional deposit you make into the tank reduces the effectiveness of any treatment. The solution to this problem is to dump your waste tanks frequently.
FORMALDEHYDE BASED TANK TREATMENTS
Most are no longer available, but if you are not sure check the label. Formaldehyde products have a serious adverse effect on septic tanks. Do not use them under any conditions.
ANTIBIOTICS
As we all know these kill germs. If anyone in your rig is using antibiotics, these will ultimately end up in your waste tank and will continue to kill germs. Bacteria based tank conditioners will stop working and your tank will quickly smell bad. Dump and flush your tanks frequently until you are no longer are using the prescription.
If you sit outside and smell a sour holding tank, it is probably your own. Check it first.

Remember, NO TOILET PAPER in the park sewer lines.
PLEASE DRIVE SLOW IN THE PARK
People need to SLOW DOWN - there is dust and also people walking etc. If you are not moving in your diesel truck...please turn it off. If you stop to talk...turn it off. The noise and fumes are very unpleasant.
ALSO..
Please respect the fact that even though you are up early in the morning..others aren't. Talk quietly and don't stop to talk under people's bedroom window.
