The Margarita Challenge is one of the major events and fundraisers in the area. It is a fun evening Pina Colada restaurant Rincon de Guayabitos with auctions, prizes and of course "margaritas."

The proceeds from the "Challenge" are split 50 / 50 with one half going towards local schools and half towards Bob and Vickie's Good Works.

MARGARITA CHALLENGE 2008

Margarita Challenge Huge Success

Tiki Wins The Margarita Challenge for Classic Margarita; Vicky Wins Exotic

The Margarita Challenge was held at the Pina Colada Restaurant on Wednesday. The evening began with bids on the silent auction. The tables were filled with items; booze baskets to golf balls, Xaltemba Gift Certificates to Model Cars.

Dinner was served to the 190 or so guests; prime rib or shrimp. Afterwards the challenge began.

Nervous contestants vied for the best Margarita. Hands were shaky; the mood subdued.

The concoctions are judged on a variety of criteria. Not only are they rated on the taste, after taste etc., but the contestant is rated on presentation and other outside factors. Outside factors can include mordita.

Vicky, this year hosted a Magician who amazed the crowd of onlookers.

The contestants margargaritas are auctioned off to the highest bidders.

Tiki from the Bavarian Gardens Restaurant won the Classic Margarita and Vicky from Vicky's bar won the Exotic Division. Congratulations.

Report

Its been a bit since the contest , things are well underway to place a new floor in the school . Vicky is locating the best prices locally for the products she needs before the purchase is made. I have had these numbers for a while now and for some reason had not taken the time to place them on the board and for that I apologize. So today for all of you folks that contributed and for all of you folks that are thinking of contributing and for everyone in general for your information. I will at this time give you the run down on the funds. Margarita Auction 9050
Silent auction 22400
T shirt 5400
meals 2631.9
donations 1763.10

That gave us a grand total of 41245.00
after expense.
Now true to our word we have placed the money in trust with The Jaltemba Foundation. Not to be confuses with other groups this is the group that many local heroes have taken there time and efforts to accredit. I believe at this time they have there tax certification from both US and Mexican authorities. Its not hard to believe the bureaucrats in Canada are still trying to finger out whose desk its supposed to be on . Probably this summer when there is a summer student for them to pass it to it might get done . God help us if a Canadian bureaucrat had to do something themselves!!
But I digress!
The foundation Has been given instructions to split the monies of the contest to the 2 separate groups as is our direction. One the Vickie's charities group and two, the Emeliano Zapata Primary school in Rincon De Guayabitos. From these monies each group can access up to 15000.00 pesos each for the purchase of there needs. To the best of my info I believe Vicky is at the present time putting together an order for her needs . When that is in place the monies will be used to cover those cost up to 15000.00 pesos to the supplier. The school is having a floor placed in classrooms . When that is accomplished monies up to 15000.00 will be paid to the contractor for the work.
Now I know all of you guys are wondering where oh where the rest of the monies will go.
The 11245.00 will be held by the foundation for emergency access by both of these groups to insure there are some funds to provide for unforeseen situations . Such as a new tire for the Vicky mobile jeep or a necessity that has no other immediate funding deemed necessary.
Likewise the school.
Now further, to the way funds will be spent!
All monies collected from the efforts of the Margarita Challenge from all sources will be spent directly into the local economy !!!!!!!!!!!
It is the intention of this group to support the community that supports them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Until Wal-Mart Home Depot and Staples become supporters of the local economy funds made from within the community will stay right where they came from!
At the risk of preaching, something we could all learn from.
Hopefully this will give all a good Idea how everything boiled down. Any questions please just ask!!! todeleeedooo jiminalta
