REDNECK Opens Los Compadres

(pictures by Larry Baron)

Los Compadres opened the season with the Redneck Mothers in the upper deck of their swank bar and soon-to-be-restaurant overlooking the town of La Peñita. It was a very tasty evening; numerous delicious h'orderves and main course were served to the guests.

The Redneck Mothers, one of the best loved groups in the area, arrived with good friends from San Pancho to hear their debut at Los Compadres.

This is likely their last year on Jaltemba Coast - they are moving south towards Barra de Navidad within the year.

J'aqui joined in the fun and sang a few tunes. Folks danced and even more food was served.

The Redneck Mothers will appear at Los Compadres every Monday evening during the high season. Los Compadres owner, George Leavitt, says the Mothers will play every Monday during the tourist season and that he hopes to line up more musicians for other evenings.

Mateja held a worker appreciation Party for people that have helped her over the years.

Suppliers and their staff to local officials and everyone in between - all were treated to her famous rib dinner, beverages and music. Party-goers well appreciated the soirée - many dancing into the wee hours on the beach.

Congratulations workers and Mateja for the special evening.

Casting Call

Two theater groups will be holding a joint casting call, looking for talented individuals who would like to be part of the theater scene. The casting call dates are Thursday, Oct. 4, Friday Oct. 5, both at 5 PM, and Saturday, Oct. 6 at Noon. The location is the Cecatur theater in downtown Puerto Vallarta, which is 2 blocks up the hill from the Burger King at the central plaza, or 3 blocks up the hill from Starbucks.

The kinds of talent needed includes: actors and actresses, singers and dancers, plus support assistants from artists, set designers and builders, choreographers, costume designers, hair and makeup specialists, dressing assistants, light and sound assistants, and back stage help. Prior theater experience not necessary.

Starting the end of November, these groups will be doing 3 different shows. The first is a musical revue of Rock & Roll music from the 50´s. The second show is a Christmas play, a comedy with a few musical numbers. The third show is a back stage farce about two slightly-over-the-hill actors, and their hilarious experiences.

If, for some reason, you can't come to the casting call, but are interested in participating in these or future shows, send an email to tjhartung@gmail.com.

Ten Days in the Yucatan BY Dr. Mervyn G. Ritchey

(Dr Merv takes readers on a Mechanical trip in the Yucatan)

My one-ton Dodge dually was in Merida (Yucatan - Mexico) for an engine repair. Conveniently we (wife Doris and I) have family relatives (daughter-in-law’s family of parents and three brothers) living in Merida who own two automotive repair shops: one for regular cars and trucks, and one for large equipment with diesel motors. While traveling to Merida from Paamul (one hour south of Cancun) in my 1992 Ram Charger (SUV), that was being taken to get many repairs done, I had three flat tires. More
