Bringing Home a Mexican Pet

A health certificate is recommended for all within 10 days of travel. This cost of vaccinations and a health certificate is approximately 200 pesos ($20.00). Rabies and other vaccinations are important but should be given one week apart. Rabies is the most important for exportation unless the animal is less than 3 months of age, then rabies is not necessary!

The cost of flying an animal varies with different airlines..from $75.00 US to $95.00 so far with the animals we have sent back as long as they are accompanied by a paid fare. Most (but not all) airlines will take an animal aboard but there is a maximum number per flight (5 animals) or in cargo there is no limit. Alaska Airlines is great! One needs to phone the airlines and check requirements and make a reservation for the animal. Upon arrival at the airport, the ticket for the animal is paid. Charter airlines will NOT accommodate animals.

If Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue has a spare kennel to loan (with a deposit which will be refunded upon return of the kennel), we will do so, otherwise the cost of a kennel is approximately 500 pesos depending upon the size. Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue will help support anyone wanting to adopt an animal.
